Interview with Safe Side!
Has your truck ever caught on Fire? With several well-known mega and Pro mega trucks bursting into flames in recent months, it might be something you should consider when preparing yourself and your truck for the next event! I recently had the chance to talk with Bobby Barta about this recent experience with fire!
Bobby Barta Hot Head Mega Truck
Safe Side: What is the name of your mega truck?
Bobby: Hot Head
Safe Side: What is your occupation?
Bobby: Owner of All Wood Log Splitters
Safe Side: Who built the truck?
Bobby: I built it from the ground up!
Safe Side: Was safety considered during the build?
Bobby: Yes, Steel fire walls, full cage, harness, etc.
Safe Side: How long have you been in a mega truck?
Bobby: 1 year, Hot Head is my first
Safe Side: Rumor has it that you sold Hot Head and have a new build in mind?
Bobby: Yes, look for a 37 Ford to come out in 2017, with some innovations!
Safe Side: Are you married?
Bobby: Yes, to my wife Beth
Safe Side: Do you have kids?
Bobby: Yes, a son and recently born daughter
Safe Side: Did the truck recently catch fire?
Bobby: Yes, the oil cooler built too much pressure and burst causing the oil to spray onto the headers and catch fire
Safe Side: Did you get burned?
Bobby: Yes, on my arms and forehead
Safe Side: Were you wearing protective gear?
Bobby: Not at the time of the fire.
Safe Side: Why not?
Bobby: I was crossing a mud pit and got stuck, so I took my gear off. As I was being pulled out I was running the truck to help when the fire occurred.
Safe Side: If you had one thing to say about this to others, what would it be?
Bobby: Always keep you protective gear on!
Safe Side: Any shout outs?
Bobby: I would like to thank my wife, sister, mom and dad for all their support!
Bottom line when it comes to protecting yourself from a fire is try to wear protective gear such as a rated fire suit, gloves, shoes, helmet and protective hood! You never know when it could happen to you!
